Peace Corps Volunteers are
told throughout their service to remain patient and flexible, as things can
always change.
You might think that after
being in country for just over a year that everything is settled and that I
have permanently made residence.
Surprise!
I am in for another
change. After some four months at Ishaka
health Plan, I am shifting, moving, to a new organization.
Where? Not sure exactly.
When? Hopefully within the coming weeks.
It was brought to my
attention when I was in Kampala last week that my organization is no longer in
need of a Volunteer. They have been able
to utilize short-term Volunteers from a university they network with in the
States and house them for free on the hospital compound, unlike paying my rent
every month. With this, I am packing up
my bags and moving on.
With permission from the
necessary Peace Corps staff, I was able to spend the latter part of last week
and the weekend up north in Kitgum, with some fellow PCV’s who needed
assistance in a training. More to come later.
Anyway during my time
there I was able to visit some local organizations, one of which is promising
in hosting another Volunteer. This
particular organization is currently working with a PCV and is eager for
another. Through many activities, such
as outreaches and support groups, they work with individuals infected and
affected by HIV/AIDS. After my short
time at the NGO, I came to see the potential in many secondary projects in
addition to helping them meet their goals and needs as an organization.
There is also an incredible
opportunity for me to help assist in the development of a softball team in
Kitgum. You first wait. There will be a post.
I have been praying for a
quick site change so that I can continue to do the work I am so passionate
about. In the meantime I am crossing all
my fingers, toes, arms, and legs.
I ask that you do the
same.
