A Sorta Spa Day

Today was a great day.

It started with a phone call from the family, which showed up as a Ugandan phone number on my phone so for a slight second I thought maybe they were in country.  No… They were enjoying the sweet life that America has to offer.  Hearing their voices though put the biggest of smiles on my face.

I then was offered a free ride into Mbarara by Clair’s (a fellow PCV) organization.  As I waited for her in town I came across a bakery and managed to score a faux cinnamon type roll for 1,000UGX, or about $0.40USD.  After shopping in town and picking up some essentials, such as laughing cow cheese, cucumbers, lettuce, and couscous, it was time to meet up with some other friends at the pool.  As I was hailing a taxi, a very generous man pulled over and offered me a free ride.

Tara: 1.  Uganda: 0.

As we sat poolside we were served our lunches of lasagna, spaghetti, pasta carbonara, and fruit platters, all accompanied by ice-cold ciders.  You can tell we were in the mood for Italian.

Some people swam.  I opted to just sit poolside with my feet in the refreshing water while catching up on fresh celebrity gossip.  Went I ventured inside to use the bathroom I came upon a steam room, sauna, gym, salon, and showers with the coolest looking showerheads I have seen in Africa.

After taking advantage of these facilities, it was time to leave.  As I put my shoulder bag on, I realized I made one giant mistake.  No sunscreen.  Needless to say, I am a lot darker in color than I was this morning.

P.S. Tara, you live on The Equator.

ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN!
