Yes. I am aware this is being posted on Tuesday.
Being at an organization
that has me keeping busy with various work and projects is making the weeks fly
by. While I am overjoyed to have work,
be somehow of use, and help develop existing and new activities, I am getting
sad that this time is flying by.
I am terrified that
America and my Close of Service are right around the corner… Especially considering
that the Volunteers in the group ahead of me are currently in the process of
leaving the country.
When I rolled into the
office this morning I had a full to do I had to accomplish before the end of
the day. From completing my Volunteer
Report File, documenting my activities, challenges, and happenings for the past
four months, and planning for my life skills class to going to the market for
produce and beginning to gather information to close the GLOW grant so I can
open another.
As I crossed off each task
I came to realize just how happy I am with my service thus far.
I may have not built a
school or helped to design an Income Generating Activity that is bringing in
oodles of money for women and children but I have recognized a lot about
myself. I have been a part of cultural
exchanges that I would have never otherwise been exposed to. I have learned a language spoken in the
tiniest corner of a tiny country in the heart of Africa. I helped to organize and implement a camp for
130 young girls from all around the country in the area of life skills and
personal development, growth, and leadership… I have been lucky to be involved
in four of these camps. I have been
involved in trainings of other Volunteer groups in various roles.
This above is what
counts.
Not the number of grants
written or the number of committees one sits on but rather the exchanges with Ugandans
that will last a lifetime and impact us in ways no one will realize until years
down the road.
Apwoyo matek Uganda.
Apwoyo matek.
(Thank you very much.)
