I feel like I have posted
this image before on my blog…
Well maybe you noticed but
the cycle ends after 27 months.
Here I am currently at
month 28 and confused about what I should be feeling.
Now I never based my
service off this cycle but it was a good reference to turn to when I felt crazy
around month 14 and realized that a lot of my fellow Volunteers felt the same
and there were reasons why: a lack to support, disappointment in ones projects
and service, and withdrawal.
In my mind it is the final
quarter… The last inning… The kick off in a World Cup final… The final
countdown…
It is time to mobilize and implement
activities. It is time to write my
description of service. It is time to
plan my post-PC trip to Cape Town. It is
time to perfect my resume and apply for jobs.
It is time to figure out where I will spend a fraction of my sweet
readjustment allowance…
Hello Target/TOMS
Partnership!
This sounds so easy but it
is quite the contrary.
Everyday I think about
what the future holds and that had I not extended I would have been home.
I could have been at
Tomale’s Bay eating oysters with the family.
I could have been taking
long hot showers although with the drought in California I’d probably still be
bucket bathing.
I could have been making
my specialty banana and spinach shakes.
I would have been at spin
class with Ramon and the gang.
But I should be here.
There is work to be done
at In Movement and in Uganda. I have a
Youth Leadership Summit and Re-Usable Menstrual Pad workshops to complete. I have camps to coordinate. I still very much have a life here that requires
my commitment and undivided attention.
Plus I have places to
travel to still and new restaurants to try.
And I have 94 days to do
it.
I decided to close my service
prior to National Camps meaning that from December 2nd to 4th
I will be at the office completing paperwork, having exit interviews, and
double checking that I am medically good to go.
Once I gong out and officially become a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer I
will give up a little more of my time and head to either National BUILD or
National GLOW to support my fellow PCVs and serve in the role as one of the In
Movement dream team members.
Then on December 13th
or 14th I fly out to Cape Town for that long awaited trip to wine
country, Table Top Mountain, and penguin beaches, all in time to return back to
California for the holidays.
