Julia’s Visit

Last week I had a visitor at site!  As much as I wish that it could have been my family, it was a very close follow-up.

Julia, a fellow Volunteer from my group and a dear friend, came to Ishaka, as she is interested in starting a health co-op at her site.  She spent a day at the hospital gathering information and exchanging contacts.  This was also a great opportunity for me to learn about health insurance schemes, their purposes, and how they benefit everyone involved.  We also exchanged income generating activities and ideas on how to strengthen the scheme by introducing health education to the groups that are benefiting from the plan.

The workshop that my Supervisor had organized allowed for us to learn, exchange ideas, and create a partnership.  After a Mediterranean dinner of falafel, pita, and salad at Andrew’s, I realized that this is all apart of the Peace Corps experience… Good food, good friends, and working together to help reach a common goal.
